Trump appoints new Secret Service director

US President Donald Trump has appointed Randolph 'Tex' Alles to be the director of the US Secret Service, the White House announced on Tuesday.

Alles presently serves as the acting deputy commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection. He had previously led its Air and Marine Operations, the White House noted.

He joins the ranks of Trump administration officials with military backgrounds as he served in the Marines for 35 years, rising to the rank of major general before retiring in 2011.

He will take the reins from Secret Service Deputy Director William Callahan, who replaced former director Joseph Clancy after Clancy's March 4 retirement, Politico reported.
