Georgia's Permanent Representative to the UN division and other international organizations in Geneva, Shalva Tsiskarashvili, has been elected Vice President of the UN Human Rights Council in 2017, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, stressing that Georgia held this position for the first time.
Georgia's Permanent Representative together with the President of the Council and other members of the bureau will take part in the development of organizational and procedural matters, as well as hold separate meetings.
In 2017, the functions of co-vice-presidents will be fulfilled by Egypt, Iraq and representatives of Switzerland as well, Georgia Online reports.
