Fake products come in all shapes and sizes, encompassing everything from perfumes and cosmetics to handbags and electronic components.
The global trade in counterfeit goods is worth almost half a trillion dollars every year, or 2.5 per cent of the world’s imports according to a report from the OECD and EUIPO. US, Italian and French brands are the hardest hit by the trade in knock-offs.
China accounts for just over 63 per cent of the world’s counterfeit goods, with Turkey and Singapore following a long distance behind (3,3% and 1,9% respectively).
