Turkey and Iran sign banking co-op deal

Turkish and Iranian central banks signed a memorandum of understanding to boost banking cooperation, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said.

The deal was signed by the deputy governor of CBI Mahmoud Yagoubi and the deputy executive director at Central Bank of Turkey, Mehmet Taskin, on the sidelines of the Iran-Turkey joint banking committee’s first session in Tehran.

During the meeting the two parties discussed settling the obstacles of expanding banking ties, integrating the two countries' payment systems and using national currencies for bilateral trade.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held in March with participation of representatives from commercial banks and economic organizations of the two countries, Trend reports.
