Today Turkey is hosting the final round of negotiations between the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Republican People's Party (CHP) on the formation of a coalition government. The AKP will make a last attempt to form a new coalition with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
According to the Turkish Minister for EU Affairs, Volkan Bozkır, if the AKP and the CHP won’t be able to agree on this issue, the AKP will give its final address to the National Movement Party, Trend reports.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan notes quite skeptical chances of the formation of the coalition government in Turkey. According to him, every day they are decreasing and it is not excluded that the country could hold early parliamentary elections.
However, the People's Republican Party is closer to the creation of a coalition government of all the political forces, which have the right to be represented in parliament, said Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan.
At the same time, according to the Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, the IPA refused to form a coalition government.
In June the CHP put forward conditions for the formation of a coalition government with the ruling AKP party. According to this, the CHP leader should be the head of the government of the country for two years. In addition, the Turkish parliament should be led by one of its members. The opposition also demanded to appoint the Ministers of Justice, Interior and Education from deputies of the CHP.
As noted in an interview for Vestnik Kavkaza by Associate Professor at the School of International Relations, University of TOBB Economics and Technology (Ankara) Togrul Ismail, a coalition government is a government that should include the interests of both parties, and both circles.
"Certainly, they should remember that the views of the AKP and the CHP are different in respect to some issues. Now they are holding talks in order to find common ground for the formation of a new government. But I can say that even if the coalition government is formed it will be temporary. It is likely that the elections will be early," the expert noted.
