Turkey's Security Council calls for thaw in Ukraine-Russia tensions

Turkey's National Security Council called for de-escalation in tensions between Russia and Ukraine late Thursday.

The council, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also underlined that "escalation is not in the interest of anyone," calling on both sides to exercise restraint, Daily Sabah reported.

Earlier, Erdogan said Turkey is ready to host the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to "pave the way for re-establishing peace". He also announced that he had invited Putin to Turkey, but the date is yet to be set. The Kremlin later announced that Putin had accepted Erdogan's invitation to visit Turkey.
