Turkmen president accepts resignation of government

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow has accepted the resignation of the government on Sunday.

Berdimuhamedow signed a relevant decree following the presidential inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Ruhyyet (Spirituality) Palace in Ashgabat the previous day. The document was published in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on Sunday.

"In accordance with Article 92 of the Turkmen Constitution, as well as Article 7 of the Turkmen law 'On the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan,' the Turkmen president signed a decree accepting the resignation of the full Cabinet of Ministers by the newly elected Turkmen president," the newspaper said.

The document also orders the resigned members of the government to continue performing their duties until a new government is formed.

As reported, the early presidential election was held in Turkmenistan on March 12. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, 40, won 72.97% of the vote and was elected president of Turkmenistan.
