U.S. Congressman: Bidzina Ivanishvili is Vladimir Putin’s puppet

Informal Georgian leader Bidzina Ivanishvili is a puppet of Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. Congressman Pete Olson said, when delivering a speech in Congress about the conflict between the Georgian government and Frontera Resources.

"I have a question. What does Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street has in common with Republic of Georgia’s oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili? What they have in common? Answer – they are both puppets who trash their own homes. Vladimir Putin’s puppet Bidzina Ivanishvili has attacked the investment in Georgia and crushed basic human rights," Georgia Online cited him as saying.

The Congressman did not specify that oil production in Georgia annually amounts to about 200-250 thousand barrels, and in addition to Frontera Resources, there are seven more foreign companies from the UK, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Israel, Hong Kong and Singapore being engaged in exploration and oil production in the republic.

Speaking about the American oil company Frontera Resources, the Congressman said that it has been creating jobs and freedom for years. "This was until the Georgian government took over all of its operations and equipment," he said, adding that now Vladimir Putin took control of Georgia's oil.

He called on Congressmen to support the opposition protesters in Georgia. "It is time to wake up, because protesters in Georgia need our support. Join me to raise our voice in support of freedom in Georgia," Pete Olson concluded.

Frontera entered Georgia in 1997 and founded Frontera Eastern Georgia. The government of Georgia and American company Frontera have sued each other for “violating contract conditions,” which are confidential. Frontera says that it has suffered $3.5 billion in damage in Georgia.  Frontera Company has not paid salaries to Georgian employees for  a year, 80 employees were dismissed.
