Saudi Arabia Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih met U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry in Washington yesterday and said both sides expressed concern over threats targeting freedom of maritime traffic in the Arabian Gulf.
The Saudi minister added that the two countries "stressed their determination to work together to ensure the security of global energy supplies."
Al-Falih and Perry also discussed the condition of the oil market and Saudi Arabia’s keenness to stabilize it, as Al-Falih affirmed the commitment of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-member producers to coordinate output and strive to balance the oil market, Reuters reported.
The U.S. reimposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 after pulling out of a 2015 nuclear accord between Tehran and six world powers. In a bid to cut Iran’s sales to zero, Washington in May ended sanctions waivers for importers of Iranian oil.
