The United States is deeply concerned about Iran’s growing ties to Palestinian fundamentalist organization Hamas, State Department's top counter-terrorism official Nathan Sales said.
"After a brief split early in the Syria conflict, Hamas and Iran have rebuilt their relationship. Iran is once again providing Hamas with much-needed funding," he stressed.
Sales stressed that combined with the money that Iran provides to other terrorists, the total bill comes close to $1 billion a year. "Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. Iran spends $700 million a year on Lebanese Hizballah," he added.
The State Department's top counter-terrorism official noted that Tehran gives another $100 million to various Palestinian terrorist groups, including Hamas.
