U.S. embassy in Moscow clarifies Washington's position on Crimea

Washington's position on the status of Crimea has not changed, the U.S. embassy in Russia said.

"As we have said many times before, Crimea is part of Ukraine and our Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control of the peninsula to Ukraine," Interfax cited the embassy press officer as saying.

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump told G7 leaders that Crimea belongs to Russia because the peninsula’s residents speak the Russian language, Buzzfeed reported, citing two diplomatic sources.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders refused to comment this media report.
