UK abandons plans for military operations in Syria

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament has issued a report opposing the country carrying out military operations in Syria. The document has been made public today.

"We believe that British military operations should not be extended (before Syria's inclusion in it) unless there is a clear strategy on how to fight IS, as well as end the civil war in Syria," RIA Novosti cited the report.

The report also notes the need for a relevant UN Security Council resolution.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has abandoned plans to carry out airstrikes against Islamic State positions in Syria after he failed to receive support from Labour MPs, the Times newspaper reports. According to the newspaper, Cameron needed the support of 40 Labour MPs to win the vote. But the Prime Minister failed to persuade enough of Jeremy Corbyn's MPs.
