UK to allocate $922 million to fight COVID-19

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will confirm Britain's pledge of £388 million for vaccine research, tests and treatments, which is part of a wider £744 million ($922 million) towards the global effort against the novel coronavirus.

Johnson, who spent three nights in intensive care with COVID-19, said finding a treatment was “the most urgent shared endeavour of our lifetimes”.

"To win this battle, we must work together to build an impregnable shield around all our people, and that can only be achieved by developing and mass-producing a vaccine," he will tell delegates, according to his office.

"The more we pull together and share our expertise, the faster our scientists will succeed," The AFP cited him as saying.
