United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on Russia and the United States to renew the New START.
According to him, nuclear disarmament remains one of their key priorities.
"We are very worried to see the risks of proliferation of nuclear weapons. We are very worried to see the fact that the medium‑range missile treaty in relation to Europe stopped. We are very much telling the US and the Russian Federation that it’s essential to renew the New START and to have negotiations on that," Guterres said.
The UN Secretary General noted that if the New START ends without renewal, it’s not only the question of the limitation of arms, "but it is all the mechanisms of control in monitoring that would be put into question."
