A new arms race is already in underway in the world, and disarmament treaties are under threat, UN Secretary General António Guterres said.
"We are witnessing a new arms race. The disarmament treaties that were concluded in the last century are under threat", he said during a speech while visiting Hiroshima, which was targeted by a nuclear bomb 77 years ago.
The head of the world organization expressed hope that the Review Conference of the countries-participants of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, held at the UN headquarters in New York, would bring a positive result. "I see movement in the right direction", the UN chief said.
