US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon will visit Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan on October 24–29.
Under Secretary Shannon will commemorate each state’s 25 year anniversary of independence and highlight the strong and growing partnerships between the Central Asian states and the US government through Secretary Kerry’s C5+1 initiative, a platform for discussion and joint regional action on issues of common interest.
On October 24, Under Secretary Shannon will travel to Astana, Kazakhstan where he will meet with government officials and alumni of US exchange programs. He will also visit the 2017 EXPO site and tour Kazakhstan’s National Museum.
Through Under Secretary Shannon’s trip, the United States looks forward to strengthening durable government-to-government and people-to-people ties with Central Asia.
This will be Under Secretary Shannon’s first visit to Central Asia.
