US blacklisted Russia's top investigator Bastrykin

US blacklisted Russia's top investigator Alexander Bastrykin and four other Russian officials for human rights abuses. The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury Department, are tied to the 2012 US Magnitsky Act, US officials said.

Gennady Plaksin, Stanislav Gordiyevsky, Andrei Lugovoy and Dmitry Kovtun were also sanctioned, Reuters reports.

The Magnitsky Act bars Russians believed to have been involved in his death or other severe human rights abuses from entering the United States, and freezes their assets there.
