The US has started to develop advanced prompt global strike systems capable of carrying out the same tasks as the nuclear forces, Russia's Defense Ministry Spokesman Alexander Yemelyanov said at a Russian-Chinese briefing on missile defense, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly First Committee’s meeting.
"While implementing the concept of shared use of offensive and defensive weapons, the Pentagon has started to develop advanced prompt global strike systems," Yemelyanov said. "When not equipped with nuclear weapons, these systems are meant to carry out the same tasks as the strategic nuclear forces," he added.
He also said that there was a clear link between the US plans to establish its global ABM system and the development of prompt global strike systems. "If a strike is delivered on the Russian and Chinese strategic nuclear forces’ facilities, the efficiency of the US ABM system will improve," TASS cited the Russian Defense Ministry’s spokesman as saying.
"So the development of prompt global strike systems once again proves Washington’s wish to ruin the current balance of power and ensure the US global strategic dominance," Yemelyanov noted.
A military observer of the TASS news agency, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza, noted that an instantaneous strike from outer space would be threat for Russian nuclear weapons, but then it will be tantamount to declaring war. "Naturally, Russia will have to respond, and not necessarily with non-nuclear missiles: our military doctrine says that if a nuclear-armed state attacks Russia, we have the right to use nuclear weapons against it - even if the attack against us is non-nuclear. Then we can hit New York, the Yellowstone Reserve with a sleeping volcano, the dams that control the Great Lakes, which can wash away half of America, is the US will attack us first," he stressed.
"In this regard, we are against the US, or any other state, putting weapons into space." We repeatedly raised this issue at a meeting of the UN General Assembly, but the law has not been adopted yet, because the US persistently opposes it. The United States current experiments in space put the world on the brink of nuclear war. And they also try to unleash an arms race," Viktor Litovkin said.
"Of course, we should raise issues about the inadmissibility of putting weapons into space. We should create reliable anti-missile and air defense systems, as well as missile attack warning systems and improve our strategic offensive potential. But we should not go beyond the financial parameters that are assigned to the armed forces forces to create effective and effective weapons that can deter any potential aggressor," the retired colonel concluded.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Journalistic Truth', Vladislav Shurigin, in turn, pointed to the fact that parity between Russia and the United States in the field of nuclear weapons will not be violated. "The presence or development of such systems was not specified. Either party can easily develop them, since these are non-nuclear-weapon systems. Most likely, we are talking about the use of the latest weapons development, for example, modern hypersonic strike systems that allow to strike the entire depth of the opponent's territory at a very high speed," the expert said.
At the same time, he stressed that the emergence of such systems very sharply violates the military balance. "The advent of such systems brings us back to time when each side seeks to achieve greater superiority, and in this case we seek to protect ourselves by readiness for immediate reaction," the editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Journalistic Truth'explained.
In addition, he noted that in response to the US creation of advanced prompt global strike complexes, Russia should develop its own systems. "And we do it. Russia has been engage in very serious work in the field of hypersonic combat systems. In many respects we have restored our weapons complex. That is, we can parry this threat, but as I said, parrying immediately shortens the reaction time. If 5-6 years ago such a military confrontation would develop slowly and take weeks and months, then with the advent of such systems, it requires a few minutes," Vladislav Shurygin concluded.
