US will remain alone with its sanctions if Congress rejects Iranian deal

If Congress rejects the deal on the Iranian nuclear program, then the United States would not be able to force other countries to preserve the current sanctions against Iran, US Finance Minister Jacob Lew stated in an interview with the New York Times.

"The Iranian nuclear deal gives us the opportunity to neutralize the most serious threat of our time on a long-term basis. If this agreement is not reached, in less than 90 days Iran can get enough fissile material to build a nuclear bomb," TASS quotes the head of the Ministry of Finance as saying.

"Those who call upon the US Congress to reject the deal, saying that the US could and still can achieve a better agreement in case of a tightening of existing sanctions to such an extent, so that Iran will have no choice but to fully dismantle its nuclear program or even completely change the regime of the country. These assumptions are dangerous fantasies, that contradict economic and diplomatic realities," the head of the Ministry of Finance stressed.
