The time has come for a global tripartite strategic alliance of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, the former Secretary General of GUAM, the head of the Rondeli Foundation Valeri Chechelashvili said, speaking at the conference titled 'Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey trilateral relations: A look into the future' in Baku.
The event is held under the patronage of the Center for Strategic Studies (CSI) under the President of Azerbaijan.
"Today, we must implement ambitious projects, Georgia has a free trade zone with Turkey and Azerbaijan, which can serve as a basis for further actions to strengthen such an alliance. In addition, Turkey is already in association with the European Union, and Azerbaijan is working on a new agreement with the EU," he noted.
According to Chechelashvili, the creation of a large tripartite union will open new opportunities for its participants and for the entire region as a whole. "It is very important for the parties not only to support each other in projects, but also share common values. Thus, they will be able to increase their potential. In particular, Turkey and Georgia will become the EU members, and Georgia - a NATO member," the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza cited him as saying.
