Veronika Krasheninnikova: world needs to pay more attention to South Caucasus

The international community should pay more attention to the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, the general director of the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies and Initiatives, Advisor to the General Director of the MIA Russia Today, Veronika Krasheninnikova, said in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza on the fields of the discussion platform 'Tver - XXI' on 'Shadows of the Cold War: Russia and the West in Modern Reality' that took place at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.

"The general interest in connection with the recent tragic events that unfortunately take place regularly attract the Middle East as a platform where international terrorism is based by using individual states,'' she explained.

Therefore, according to experts, in recent years the South Caucasus has received less attention that should have been paid. "Nevertheless, if international terrorism will get out of control, additional threats will appear near the Caucasus. Therefore, we should be very careful about what is happening to all the processes there," Krasheninnikova said.

Speaking about the influence of the interaction between Russia and the United States on the South Caucasus, the general director of the Foreign Policy Research Institute and Initiatives said the situation unfolds in its own way in each country.

"Azerbaijan is a state where a lot of political processes take place. Of course, the complication of relations between Russia and Turkey provided a new dynamic in relations between Moscow and Baku. It is necessary to solve all the issues in a constructive manner as far as possible, taking into account the interests of all the involved parties,'' the analyst said.

As for Georgia, Tbilisi is significantly oriented toward the West. "Georgia very tightly joined NATO. The change of the leadership in the country left the political orientation of Georgia the same. It maintains the line of a strategic alliance line, and maybe even more close cooperation with it," she said.

"Armenia also has become a part of the EAEC," Veronika Krasheninnikova recalled.
