A suspected ISIS militant has been arrested in Turkey accused of planning an attack on a U.S. military jet at a NATO air base, local news reports.

Russian national Renat Bakiev had allegedly planned on crashing a U.S. aircraft by using a drone to disrupt its flight at Incirlik air base in southern Turkey.

Bakiev was detained after police surveillance showed him scouting the nearby city of Adana with the aim of carrying out his attack, the Daily Mail reported.

Bakiev had also used a messaging app widely used by ISIS sympathisers to appeal for 2,800 Turkish Lira from other militants to buy a drone, Adena police said.

During police interrogations, Bakiev admitted to previously having made an attempt to attack U.S. forces at the base, but that this had been unsuccessful.

Bakiev, who is said to have spent time in Syria, had also planned to attack the local Alevi community in Adana.
