The volunteer centers set up for the 2018 World Cup would continue their activity after it ended, head of the Russia-2018 Local Organizing Committee’s department for volunteers, Tatyana Gomzyakova, said.
"During the World Cup we carried out motivational and educational programs, environmental activities, introduced the culture of other countries, and organized contests," Gomzyakova said, adding that this work must be continued.
According to her, a record-breaking number of applications for a World Cup had been received. "Then, we combined the programs of the volunteers with the organizing committee and city volunteers, and held different kinds of training sessions for them. Moreover, a unique app was successfully used during the World Cup that organized mutual activity," TASS cited her as saying.
"Prior to the tournament, we had wanted to have an 80-20 ratio of volunteers from the host cities and visiting volunteers, and we managed to do this. Of course, this alleviated the workload," she went on to say. "After the World Cup, volunteers and volunteer centers will continue their activity in the cities that hosted it," Gomzyakova added.
Russia hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15. Eleven host cities, namely Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara, were selected to be the venues for the matches of the 2018 World Cup. On Sunday, Team France hammered Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final match to clinch its second World Cup Trophy.
