In Nairobi a conference of the WTO member-countries has ended, resulting in a decision to stop subsidizing the agricultural sector. At the same time, the developed countries are to stop subsidizing immediately and developing countries – in 2018. According to the WTO Director General, Robert Azevedo, this is the most significant decision of the organization on the agrarian sector.
The conference in Nairobi lasted a day longer than planned, as the representatives of developed and developing economies tried to reach a consensus on the Doha round, but failed to achieve this: the WTO members split on how the multilateral negotiations on this matter should be conducted.
