U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had said previously that President Donald Trump wants to meet with international leaders to solve problems, including with Iranian officials, according to the U.S. State Department website.
"Both the Secretary and the President have addressed this numerous times that we would be willing to sit down with Iran and have conversations about the future of that country," she told the briefing.
The spokesperson added that Washington would like to see changes in Iran's behavior.
