Today, American newspaper The Washington Post devoted a separate article to the importance of the Soviet Union's contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany, which stressed that the Soviet Union not only took the biggest blow of the German troops, but also played a key role in defeating Hitler.
The newspaper cites statistics, according to which the Soviet Union paid the highest price for this victory (about 15 million civilians and 11 million soldiers).
All major battles that have influenced the course of war happened at the Soviet territories - the defense of Stalingrad, the battle of Kursk. There were no comparable events on the western front, the newspaper notes.
