The domestic situation has aggravated in Georgia in recent days. This happened due to the growth of tension concerning Rustavi 2, disorders near the UNM offices, as well as mutual conflict between the President and the Prime Minister. Georgian political analysts Joseph Tsiskarishvili and Nika Chitadze spoke in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza about how disorders and confrontation between the United National Movement and the Georgian Dream can be fraught with consequences for the country.
According to Josef Tsiskarishvili, the situation in Georgia is becoming more serious day by day. This happens due to the conflict between the Georgian Dream and the United National Movement.
"The situation is worsening. The current state of things depends on the government and the need to prevent the growth of tension between different groups of the Georgian population. The main reason is the unacceptability of the two leading political forces in Georgia: a former leader of the state of the United National Movement and the political party Georgian Dream, which uses a one-party method,’’ he said.
The only politician who intends to weaken tensions is President Giorgi Margvelashvili. "The President's speech points to the fact that the real guardian of constitutional peace in the country is the president. As a politician, he has no special geography, but, nevertheless, after two years in the post of the head of state he is more acceptable to the Georgian society,’’ the expert noted.
The head of the Center for Security Studies and International Relations, Nika Chitadze, noted that the situation in Georgia is a very tense now because there are disagreements between the authorities and the opposition, as well as between the authorities and society.
"The confrontation between the President and the Prime Minister, as well as the President and the government, has lasted several years. This may be tied with Ivanishvili’s offences, who doesn’t like the President and considers that the Prime Minister’s team belongs to him," he noted.
Commenting on today's statement by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the expert noted that his words and the words of other members of the government encouraged hysterically minded people to commit acts of hooliganism, as it was with the attacks on the offices of the United National Movement.
"As for Giorgi Margvelashvili, his statement was constructive and it promotes building a new dialogue. It was an appeal to various opposition parties, non-governmental organizations and the diplomatic corps to initiate consultations. I hope it will help to defuse the alarming situation that now exists in Georgia,’’ he said.
