The head of the presidential administration of Kazakhstan Adilbek Dzhaksybekov said that the proposal to make English an official language was among the proposals received in the framework of the public discussion of constitutional amendments on the redistribution of powers between branches of government.
Representatives of about 130 nationalities and ethnic groups live in Kazakhstan, which has a population of over 17.7 million people. Kazakh is the state language, but Russian language is officially used alongside Kazakh in the government organizations and local authorities.
