Yerevan blackout caused by breakdown in country’s electric energy system

Yerevan’s subway just ceased operating because of faults in electric energy supply.

Spokesman of the city municipality Hakob Karapetyan wrote on his Facebook page that trains stopped on some sections of tunnels.

According to him, power supply resumed a little later, trains moved to stations and people went out.

Only one train remains trapped in the tunnel between Zoravar Andranik and Republic Square stations, but as Karapetyan said, the situation is under control. He said that the subway will not operate until the electricity supply problem is solved, ARKA reported.

Electric power supply faults are seen all over Yerevan and also in some provinces. Vice PM Tigran Avinyan said earlier that there was a breakdown in the country’s electric energy system.

He said that Yerevan Thermal power Plant and the 5th unit of the Hrazdan Hydro Power Plant are not operating now. In his words, things are thought to be put right before 19:00
