Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is ‘personally involved’ in negotiations with the Georgian authorities regarding ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 and currently is undergoing treatment in Gori Military Hospital following a hunger strike.
He noted yesterday that he has been receiving letters from Saakashvili, adding that he provided him with information, Ukrainian online media outlet Ukrainska Pravda reports.
Zelensky added he contacted the Georgian government on behalf of Saakashvili’s family members ‘so that his other half or his mother could get to him,’ Zelensky said, adding that the Georgian side did not refuse his request.
Zelensky noted that one more issue remains unsolved which includes the involvement of Ukrainian physicians in the treatment of the ex-president, saying that negotiations regarding this issue are ongoing, adding that European Council President Charles Michel is also involved in the process.
