The international Gagarin meeting of young scientists and students
from the CIS and Baltic states entitled 'Under the clear stars of
Byurakan' will be held in Armenia in July at Byurakan astrophysics
observatory named after Victor Hambardzumyan, spokesman of the Russian
Cooperation in Armenia told News Armenia.
The meeting was initiated by the council of young scientists of the
Armenian National Academy of Sciences, supported by the office of
Russian Cooperation organization in Yerevan. The meeting is dedicated
to the 50th anniversary of the first flight of a man into space. It is
held by the Russian-Armenian Center for Innovative Cooperation.
Preparation for the conference was discussed by the President of
Armenian National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Radik Martirosyan and
Victor Krivopuskov, head of the Russian Cooperation office and advisor
of the Russian ambassador in Armenia.
One of the main topics for discussions is preparation and holding of
anniversary events. Gagarin made his flight on April 12, 1961. A
special science session of the NAS, school and university lessons of
astronautics, contests of essays, paintings and posters, poetry, films
will be organized.
The Russian center of science and culture and museums in Yerevan plan
anniversary exhibitions in February.
Armenian Institute of Tourism, a subdivision of the Russian
International Academy of Tourism, will have exhibitions on Gagarin for
pupils, youth and tourists this year. There will be meetings with
space scientists and specialists.
Development of space studies at the NAS Institute of Radio-physics and
the Byurakan astrophysics observatory were discussed. A declaration
was signed by the office of Russian Cooperation and Armenian NAS. The
document involves cooperation and prospects of further development of
innovative programs and modernization projects.
Vice-President of the NAS Yuri Shukuryan, deputy head of the Russian
Cooperation office Magdi Hasanov and the advisor of the office and
executive director of the Russian-Armenian Center for Innovative
Cooperation Yuri Gasparyan were at the meeting.
Armenian scientists contributed to space studies by theoretic and
applied studies.
