Russia is mourning over the car accidents in the Krasnodar Territory and Ukraine, as ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin. State flags were lowered, all entertainment shows cancelled.
Over 5,000 houses in Gelendzhik, Krymsk and Novorossiysk and some villages of the Krasnodar Territory were submerged on July 7. Over 170 people died in the flood.
About 643 houses were destroyed in the Krasnodar Territory, 547 of them partly destroyed, 96 of fully destroyed. About 3,300 people lost property and 18,700 partly lost it. Earlier information said 254 houses were destroyed, including 96 totally destroyed, RIA Novosti reports.
246 working groups are operating. They have searched through 10,230 houses. About 5,200 houses with a population of 26,500 people, including 6,330 children, were submerged.
Two planes with rescuers flew to the area. An Il-76 with rescuers and two helicopters on board arrived in Anapa from Moscow on Saturday. Specialists will pump water out of half of houses in Krymsk. Work in Gelendzhik has been completed.
Water has been pumped out of 1,814 buildings (60% of all).
65 km of roads were cleared. The Krymsk-Novorossiysk railway traffic was restored. Part of the M-4 Don Highway was destroyed.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ordered 22 trucks with humanitarian aid, escorted by 38 people, to arrive to help the region. Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Adygeya, Stavropol Territory and Krasnoyarsk Territory are providing support.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili expressed condolences over the tragedy, his press speaker Manana Mandzhgaladze said.
Spokesman of the Georgian Interior Ministry Georgy Bukhrashvili noted that the president ordered preparations to provide humanitarian aid.
Spain and the US expressed condolences. The US offer support.
A bus turned over in Ukraine’s Chernigov Region, carrying pilgrims from Velikiye Luki of the Pskov Region. 14 Russians died and 29 were injured.
