The Heydar Akiyev Palace in Baku will mark the 870th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, a poet living in Ganja in the 12th century, Trend Life reports.
1991 was the UNESCO Year of Nizami, marking his 850th anniversary. International congresses were organized in Washington, Los Angeles, London, Tabriz and other cities.
Baku, Ganja and other Azerbaijani cities have many monuments of Nizami, museums, institutes, streets and districts named after the poet.
Cheboksary, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Tashkent, Rome have monuments of Nizami. A crater on Mercury was named after the poet.
