Over 1.35 million Russian teachers are marking World Teachers’ Day today. The USSR started marking the day in 1965. It used to be celebrated on the first Sunday of October for about 30 years. The marking of the day on October 5 started in 1994, according to the UNESCO calendar. Russian Minister for Education and Science Dmitry Livanov congratulated all teachers. He said that the bill on education of Russia will be a new step to secure state guarantees for teachers, ITAR-TASS reports.
Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District Alexander Khloponin said that North Caucasus republics had healthcare and education services below average. He noted that construction of nurseries and schools will start in 2013-2014. The situation is especially complicated in Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia and North Ossetia, RIA Novosti reports.
Khloponin demanded executives to increase wages for teachers at nurseries according to average standards.
Vladikavkaz Mayor Sergey Dzantiy said that nursery teachers earn about 6,000 rubles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that development of state policy of education will be carried out via a dialogue with teachers.
Russian regions have taken measures to increase wages to average. The process is expected to be concluded before the start of 2013. Wages will exceed the average twofold in 2018.
The Ministry for Education and Science says that Russian schools have no lack of teachers. There are about 17,200 vacancies for teachers. The country has deficit for teachers of foreign languages, Math, physical education.
