A memorial of Azerbaijani geologist Farman Salmanov will be unveiled in Gornopravdinsk of the Khanty-Mansiysk District of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District. It will be 3-5 meters tall and made of bronze, 1news.az reports.
Salmanov was born in Morul of the Shamkhorsky District of the Azerbaijani SSR on July 28, 1931. He graduated at Shamkhor in 1947, worked as a collector of the Shirvan expedition. He graduated at the Geological Faculty of the Azerbaijani Industrial Institute as an engineer-geologist in 1954.
He explored Kuzbass for oil. He worked as the head of the Plotnikovskaya and Gryaznenskaya expeditions in the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk Regions in 1955-1957. He moved to Surgut in 1957. Oil was discovered in Megion during Nowruz on March 21, 1961. The second oil well was made in Ust-Balyk. Salmanov reported about the discovery to Khrushchev.
Salmanov was the main geologist of Ust-Balyk in 1962-1964, head of Pravdinsk oil development, chief geologist for oil and gas in 1970, head of Glavtyumengeologia in 1978.
He worked in Siberia for over 30 years and discovered over 130 oil fields, including the Mamontovskoye, Megionskoye, Pravdinskoye, Ust-Balykskoye, Surgutskoye, Fyodorovskoye, Urengoyskoye, Yamburgskoye.
