Ankara is hosting an international conference entitled ‘The Caucasian War of the 19th century: Realpolitik and ‘memory wars’’ at the University of Economics and Technology (TOBB) in Ankara today. Attendants of the conference will discuss interests of the Great Powers, mainly Russia and Turkey, in the North Caucasus in the context of Realpolitik.
Alexey Vlasov, Executive Director of the North-South Center for Political Analysis and Editor-in-Chief of Vestnik Kavkaza, said that the topic was essential in terms of efforts to prevent falsification of history and to help Russian and Turkish historians and political analysts cooperate in forming common approaches to historic problems.
The expert said that the North and South Caucasus of the 19th century had been forming social, economic and political processes that were remaining topical. He reminded that the events of the past two centuries were affecting modern processes in Russia, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Vlasov thanked TOBB for co-organizing the conference and eagerness to form trust via scientific, humanitarian and educational communications. He emphasized that the conference was a big achievement in realizing agreements signed by the MSU and TOBB.
