Georgian writer Chabua Amirejibi died in Tbilisi yesterday at the age of 92, ITAR-TASS reports.
One of his most notable works is Data Tutashxia. It was translated into 29 languages. Amirejibi wrote a screen version of the novel, receiving the USSR State Premium in 1981 for it. He was also a holder of the Shota Rustaveli State Premium.
Amirejibi was an MP in 1992-1995. He founded the Iveria Foundation in 1999. He criticized some aspects of President Mikheil Saakashvili’s policy.
The writer received the Order of Honour, first and second-rank Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, Order of St. George of Georgia of the Orthodox Church.
