Georgian student Ana Dabrundashvili has won the 'Born in 1989' essay
contest that began a year ago among the youth of the former Soviet
bloc, initiated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (EBRD), RIA Novosti reports.
The contest started in 2009, the 20th anniversary of the fall of
Berlin Wall. The organizers of the contest wanted to find out the
feelings and problems of the modern generation of youth born 1989 in
Central and Eastern Europe, Balkans, Russia and the CIS countries.
These countries are part of the sphere of EBRD.
The Ukrainian writer Andrey Kurkov headed the judges. They received 600 entries.
A student of the State University of Tbilisi Ana Dabrundashvili said
that she was glad to win and in her essay she wanted to speak about
her country and her life.
