The company managing the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has described
the declaration signed between Azerbaijan and the European Commission
as a constructive step towards establishing the Southern Gas Corridor,
Managing Director of TAP Kjetil Tungland said.
Tungland believes that TAP is the most realistic and economic variant
for transport of gas extracted at Shak Deniz-2, in terms of individual
technical and commercial benefits.
TAP will be 500 km long and will have a capacity of 20 billion cubic
meters. It is aimed at transporting gas from the Caspian Sea to the
Middle East and Europe. The pipeline will start in Greece and will run
through Albania and the Adriatic Sea to Italy. The underwater part is
115 km long. The project will cost approximately $2.2 billion.
Experts give high ratings for the ITGI. The part of it between Turkey
and Greece has already been constructed. The pipeline has a capacity
of 20 billion cubic meters. It will transport Caspian gas to Italy.
