South Stream gas project demands equal opportunities from EU

The executive director of the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, Marcel Kramer called on the European Union to create equal conditions for various projects on new gas supply routes, the British newspaper Financial Times reports.

Kramer rejected the information that one of the main objectives of the South Stream is to disrupt the Nabucco project.

Kramer announced the expected total amount of construction work expenses on land and at sea - it will amount to 10-20 billion euros. Kramer emphasized that the construction of the pipeline will be carried out based on economic rather than political considerations.

The South Stream is aimed at diversifying export routes of the natural gas deliveries. The pipeline will go across the Black Sea to the South and Central Europe. For the exploitation of the onshore section of the pipeline intergovernmental agreements with Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria have been signed.
