South Caucasus Railway increases freighting by 28.2%

The South Caucasus Railway transported 164,200 tons in January 2011,
an increase on January 2010 of 28.2%, News Armenia cites the
press-service of the company as saying.


The company exported 18,300 tons of cargo and imported 69,700 tons
(an increase of 11.5%, compared with January 2010), local freighting -
76,200 tons (increase of 61.3%, compared with January 2010).


The main type of export freighting is via containers (9,300 tons),
industrial raw materials (4,900 tons), scrap metal (3,300 tons).


Concerning imports, over 21,300 tons of oil products were transported,
17,900 tons of cargo were transported via containers, over 10,100 tons
- wheat.


Local freighting includes over 71,400 tons of non-ferrous metals, over
1,300 tons of copper concentrate, over 1,200 tons of industrial raw
materials.
The South Caucasus Railways is a 100% subsidiary of the Russian
Railways Company. The Armenian Railway was handed to the South
Caucasus Railway for management, according to a concessional deal
signed on February 13, 2008. The deal lasts 30 years and can be
extended by 10 more years.
