Iran, Oman, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Qatar prepared and signed a
five-year project deal in Uzbekistan on the establishment of a new
international transport corridor, Iran News reports.
Shakhryar Efendi-Zade, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport and head
of the Roads and Traffic Organization, said that the corridor will run
through Iran and connect Central Asia with the Iranian ports in the
Persian and Oman Gulfs.
The initiative to establish the corridor was announced at a meeting of
the foreign and transport ministers of Iran, Oman, Uzbekistan and
Turkmenistan in Oman. The project was prepared and signed at a meeting
in Tashkent in February. The final deal will be signed by heads of the
states in Ashkhabad in April this year.
Efendi-Zade reminded that Qatar will be a co-founder. The corridor
will allow transport of goods and energy carriers from Iranian ports
in the Persian and Oman Gulfs through Iran to Central Asia.
The Iranian official underlined the necessity to speed up realization
of the project as much as possible and spoke for expansion of joint
investments. The project will help reduce transport expenses.
