81-year old Yevgeny Primakov does not plan to be candidate for
president of the Russian Trade and Industry Chamber, PRIME-TASS
reports.
Primakov announced his position at a press-conference on the scheduled
session of the chamber on March 4.
Primakov has headed the organisation for over 9 years. He was
re-elected as the TIC president on December 14, 2001.
He did not name any possible future candidates.
Yevgeny Primakov was the chairman of the Russian government from
September 1998 to May 1999. He headed the Central Intelligence Service
from December 30, 1991. He was the director of the Foreign
Intelligence Service from December 1991 to January 1996. Primakov was
Russian Foreign Minister from January 1996 to September 1998.
While travelling to Washington as prime minister on March 24, 1999, he
cancelled his visit when he was informed about the US bombing of
Yugoslavia.
Primakov became the chairman of the coordination council of the
“Fatherland – All-Russia” block in August 1999 and headed the federal
list of the block at the elections to the Russian State Duma of the
third calling.
