Ukraine is studying opportunities for investing in Iran’s largest gas field, South Pars, ITAR-TASS reports.
A delegation from Ukraine arrive in Asaluye in Bushehr Province on Sunday. The delegation will study opportunities for investing in the Pars economic zone. The delegation consists of 11 officials from Ukrainian energy companies. They viewed the port complex and observed the petrochemical industry.
South Pars is a gas condensate field in the Persian Gulf. It is considered one of the world’s largest natural gas fields, with 50.97 trillion cubic meters of gas and approximately 50 billion barrels of condensate.
The field is located in the Iranian and Qatari sectors of the gulf. The Iranian part holds some 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, approximately 8% of the world's gas reserves.
The South Pars project consists of 24 phases.
The Iranian Minister of Industry and Mining, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, said in November 2010 that foreign contractors had left the gas condensate field, and that realization of all phases is being carried out by Iranian specialists.
Foreign companies left the South Pars project due to the sanctions introduced by the USA and the European Union in July 2010, over Iran’s refusal to halt its nuclear program.
