"South Stream is an alternative, an additional opportunity to supply Russian gas to European consumers, and in this respect one can only speak about the option of laying the offshore portion of the pipeline," the Energy Minister said.
The South Stream pipeline project was planned to be laid under the Black Sea from Russia to Bulgaria, but the Turkish authorities have still not given permission to lay pipes in the economic zone of the country. In this regard, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, Russia is studying an alternative possibility of transporting gas to Europe in liquefied form.
