Armavia to open new flights

The Armenian air company Armavia plans to open new flights in summer 2011, owner and shareholder of the company Mikhail Bagdasarov said.


He reminded his listeners that flights to Barcelona were launched in 2010. This year they will open flights to Madrid, Leon, Birmingham, Munich, Quanzhou and possibly to Bangkok, the official said on Monday.


The company will purchase new planes for the summer season, including a Sukhoi Superjet-100.


Armavia and the civilian airliner Sukhoi signed a deal on September 14, 2007. The company purchased 4 Sukhoi Superjet-100s.


The first plane was planned to be delivered in September 2010. Its terms of arrival kept changing. February 2011 was announced as the final date. The daughter of first astronaut Yuri Gagarin is expected to take part in the presentation of the Sukhoi Superjet-100.


Armavia was founded in 1996 and meets the demands of IATA. It carries out over 100 flights per week in 40 directions to 20 countries.


The company has 11 planes: three A-320s, three A-319s, three CRJ-200s, one Yak-42-VIP and one Il-86.
