Alexey Miller has been re-elected as the CEO of Gazprom from May 31, 2011, for five more years, the company said.
Miller has been heading the company since 2001. Capitalization of Gazprom has increased 13.4-fold since February 7, 2011, from $12.8 billion to $171.9 billion. The company was worth over $360 billion in late June 2008.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that he had approved Miller’s supervision by signing a decision document.
Miller said in late June 2010 that his work is complicated, but he is ready to continue to work if his contract is prolonged in 2011.
Miller was born in Leningrad on January 31, 1962. He graduated from the Leningrad Financial-Economic Institute named after Voznesensky. He worked as an engineer-economist at the Leningrad Science-Research and Project Institute for Civilian Construction of the LenNIIproject of the Executive Council of Leningrad City Council.
He headed the business environment section of management of foreign economic ties of the committee for foreign links of the Saint-Petersburg Mayor’s Office in 1991-1996. He was the head of the section for foreign economic links and deputy chairman of the committee for foreign links.
Miller was the director for development and investment of the Saint-Petersburg Seaport in 1996-1999. He was the director general of the Baltic Pipeline System in 1999-2000.
Miller was the Russian Deputy Energy Minister in 2000.
He became the deputy CEO of Gazprom in 2002.
