Preliminary results of the All-Russian Census carried out on October 14-25, 2010, indicate that the Russian population dropped by 2.2 million to 142.905 million, Rossiyskaya Gazeta cites the Russian Statistics Service.
The population in 2002 was 145.166 million. It dropped by 1.6%.
The most populated areas are the Central, Volga and Siberian Federal Districts where over 61% of the population lives. The census shows that population dropped in 63 regions and increased in 20 regions, compared with 2002.
73.7% is urban population, compared with 73.3% in 2002.
The census says that there are 66.205 million men (46.3%) and 76.700 million women (53.7%) in Russia, compared with 46.% and 53.4% relatively in 2002.
The working group publishing census results started operating under supervision of Minister of Economic Development Elvira Nabiullina. The group consists of officials from the presidential administration, Federal Council, government office, Public Chamber, ministers, expert communities and media.
Final results will be published in 2011-2013.
Results regarding age and gender structure, marriage, education, nationalities, languages, citizenship, income, citizens temporarily abroad will be published by June 30, 2012. Results on migrants, housing conditions, birth rate, social-economic figures will published on December 31, 2012.
Information will be available on the website of the Russian Statistics Service. There will be a database with anonymous microdata with confidentiality protection.
