The average marketability of agricultural products in Armenia was 55.8%, dropping 0.4% compared with 2009. The gross agricultural product last year was below 637.6 billion drams, dropping 13.5% compared with 2009, News.am reports.
Marketability includes the sale and barter of products, paying farmers with produce.
The highest indicator was achieved in vine crops, at 91.8% in 2010, the lowest – in grain at 23.8%. Vegetables had an indicator of 74.3%.
159,300 hectares of fields were used for grain crops, 28,300 hectares for potatoes, 23,500 hectares for vegetables. Vegetables have the highest harvest, at 707,700 tons in 2010, grain – 326,400 tons, potatoes – 481,100 tons.
Armenia has its most fertile lands in the Ararat district. The Ararat and Armavir districts produced a 76% harvest of vegetables in 2010. They are close to the main market, Yerevan.
Realization of vegetables in the Ararat district reached 71.8% and 86.3% in the Armavir district.
Argatsotn had an indicator of 35.4%, Gegarkunik – 33.4%. The lowest indicator was in Vayots Dzor – 0.2%, where 84.2% of vegetables were consumed.
Marketability of meat reached 76.6% in 2010, honey – 50.2%, milk – 49.4% and eggs – 40.4%. Milk was realized by 44.7%, eggs -29.8%.
Poor exchange relations resulting from a low production rate has had a negative effect on the financial opportunities of farmers. Their total debt for irrigation water reached 6 billion drams.
