The Azerbaijani State Caspian Steamship Line and Croatia’s shipbuilding company Uljanik signed a contract on construction of ferries for Azerbaijan in Baku on Friday, head of the steamship line’s press-service Vugar Sadykhov said, Trend reports.
The ferries will be transported in October 2012. They will meet all world standards and demands. They will be constructed according to the 2+3 scheme. Each vessel is worth 22 million euros. They are financed from the state budget.
The contract was signed between the heads of the steamship line and Uljanik, Aydyn Bashirov and Anton Brazhkovich.
Bashirov said that a new railway corridor Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will open in the near future, increasing freight carriage along the TRACECA corridor.
The ferries are capable of carrying 54 carriages each.
The steamship line and Uljanik have been cooperating since 1984. The Croatian shipbuilding company built all the existing Azerbaijani vessels of the steamship line.
